Toyota 4Runner Overview

This year, the 2018 Toyota 4Runner hits the floors of local showrooms in a very similar fashion to last year's design, with a few tweaks to existing options packages and some new features.

It may look tough on the outside, but the interior cabin is exceptionally refined with premium materials, like available SofTex®. All trim levels come with an 8-way power-adjustable driver's seat with power lumbar support, too, to keep you comfortable and relaxed on your drives. With an available power moonroof, too, you can get a closer look at the great outdoors.

Trim Levels and Performance

The 2018 4Runner is available in six different trim levels: the SR5, SR5 Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, Limited, and TRD Pro. Thanks to the high level of versatility from the various trim levels, you can select the model that suits your individual driving needs.

All models are powered by a 4.0L V6 engine, which produces 270 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque. This high-output engine comes paired to a 5-speed automatic transmission with intelligence, so you can have a powerful yet smooth driving experience. The 2018 4Runner also has an impressive towing rate, as it can haul 5,000 pounds, when properly equipped.

However, drivers do have the choice between two 4-wheel drive systems: the SR5 4WD and TRD Off-Road models utilize part-time 4WD with Active Traction Control, while the Limited 4WD is equipped with a full-time 4WD system. This system features Active Traction Control and a Torsen® limited-slip center differential with a locking feature.

There's also Multi-terrain Select, which helps you regulate wheelspin and maximize the traction on various off-road situations.

Toyota 4Runner Features

At the base-level SR5 trim, the Toyota 4Runner offers plenty of solid standard features, including Hill Start Assist Control, the Entune™ Audio Plus entertainment system, cruise control, a backup camera with a project path function, and the Star Safety System™. This suite of safety features, ranging from Brake Assist to Smart Stop Technology, is designed to keep you out of harm's way.

Stepping up higher trim levels rewards you with even more advanced features. If your heart is set on off-roading, then opt for the TRD Off-Road Premium trip with its Crawl Control (CRAWL) feature. No matter how uneven the terrain is, CRAWL will help you keep superior traction by modulating the throttle and brakes on five low-speed settings.

If you're more of a safety-oriented driver, then take a closer look at the Limited trim, which comes standard with Safety Connect®. With this package, emergency assistance is always within your reach. By providing Emergency Roadside Assistance, Stolen Vehicle Locator, and Automatic Collision Notification, you will always have a helping hand during an unfortunate collision or event.
